What is Naked Short Selling?
Definition:
The act of selling a security without either borrowing the security or making a reasonable effort to determine its availability. Various SEC rules ban this practice because, among other reasons, Naked Short Selling enables investors to manipulate and depress the price of a stock without any regard for actual supply and demand within the rest of the market.
